A mother's lullaby, the sing-song of a child at play, a roar of anger, singing while working, the wail of grief, tender love songs, sacred chant... sound we make or hear can restore, comfort, release, energize, clear and/or calm us.
Modern science tells us that as we express our emotions we set off a cascade of chemicals throughout out bodies (Candace Pert). This "nervous system" communicates cell to cell via these chemicals. Vocal sound when expressed or received can set this internal pharmacy into motion.
Sound can be seen as waves of energy. It can shatter glass, is used in modern science, such as sonograms, to create a picture of the internal areas of our bodies. Sound was used by ancient cultures as part of healing practices.
Quantum physics informs us, that although our world appears physical, we are actually waves of energy and the observer (or our thoughts) effect the "composition" of that energy. Thus in a sound session, you set an intention and the sound follows that intention.
You may want to set an intention of your own related to the theme of each sounding. I suggest as you listen to these sounding that you bring your attention to your personal experince by noticing your thoughts, images, feelings/emotions, body sensations. Please take time in the quiet afterwards to let the energies settle. Here are a few suggestions for integrating the experience: reflect, journal, paint, draw, share, note your dreams.
