Karen Ember was born on a mountain in the wilds of Vermont, under the blaze of northern lights. She had the good fortune of living amongst the natural world as a child, running barefoot during summers at a Quaker camp. Singing was an integral part of her life - singing 'round the piano, the campfire, or while doing the dishes/chores.
In her early adult life, she was a welfare worker and union organizer. As life unfolded, she was drawn to personal growth, healing/energy work both for herself and for others. She went on to complete a Masters of Social Work at Bryn Mawr College. Karen brings almost 30 years of experience as a counselor working with adults, in agency settings and private practice.
For several years, she facilitated a healing network called "Seeds of Change", with weekly healing/meditation sessions and newsletter. She is influenced and informed by participating in Sufi Dances of Univerisal Peace decades ago.
Vocal sound healing evolved over the years and matured through both her own personal healing, trainings, and doing the sound work. Dear friends encouraged and received her sounding, even enthusiastically bringing her sounding to new arenas. She trained with Sarah Benson, Beverly Morgan, Don Campbell, Molly Scott (Creative Resonance), Jill Purce (overtoning), and Tom Kenyon (sound healing).
For 20 years she has offered the gift of sound healing and continues to do so today. In addition to individual sessions, she works in group settings with practitioners of other energy modalities including Barbara Brennan trained healers, Reiki Masters, psychotherapists. Karen enjoys working collaboratively with other compatible energy healers.
Her middle name was aptly given! Karen Ember “remembers” that her life purpose is to bear sounds of healing to Earth. Her passion for sound healing is obvious, and others have noted how effortlessly and naturally the sounds come through her. Collaborating with unseen helpers and guides and the consciousness of those people present, the sounding "speaks" to the deep terrain beyond words, to resonate with the receiver's inclination for balance and healing. She is one of many sound healers who bring their gifts for healing and awakening at this time.
She is married to a left brain/reluctant Buddhist guy whom she loves dearly and who helps keep life balanced. Together they have a blended family of 3 grown children, including 3 grandchildren. Life is good.
Several years ago, my husband and I were vacationing in Laguna Beach, Ca. We enjoyed the beautiful beach and the ocean waves. I walked out in a jetty of rocks, paused and gazed out at the expanse of the ocean. Gradually, a chant and body movements came to me. They were not created by me. They arrived, moving thru me. I stepped onto the sandy beach. As I sang the chant, my body knew just how to move in concert with the song. A gift from the Great Mystery - given to be shared!
